In the context of Frieze Week, artist Juan Tessi will engage in a conversation with Verónica Flom, Exhibitions and Public Programs Coordinator at Americas Society. The artist, who will be presenting a solo project at the Frame section, at Frieze, will discuss his most recent projects and exhibitions where painting appears to be more of a symptom than a mere practice.

Juan Tessi (Argentinean, born in Lima, Peru in 1972) lives and works in Buenos Aires. He studied painting with Ricardo Garabito in 1989. In 1991 he was granted a scholarship to study fine arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland where he received his BFA. He attended the Yale Norfolk Summer Residency Program in 1994. He returned to Buenos Aires in 1998 and participated in the V Bienal do Mercosul in Porto Alegre, Brazil, 2005 and the700 % PLUS - Kbh Kunsthal Centenniale, Copenhagen, 2006. In 2010/2011 he participated in the Beca Kuitca/UTDT. Recent group shows include: Ultramar, Museo Thyssen Bornemiza, Madrid (2017), Omnidireccional, CCRR, Pintura Post Post, Fundación OSDE, Empujar un Ismo, MAMBA (2015); En Hombros de Gigantes, Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico DF. (2014) Fondo Absolutamente Oscuro del Espacio Libre, Fundación Klemm, Algunos Artistas, Fundación Proa (2013), Plano, Peso, Punto y Medida, UTDT; LXV Salón Nacional de Rosario, Museo Castagnino (2011). He has had solo shows in Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, London, Rotterdam and Santiago de Chile. In 2016 he presented Cameo, curated by Lucrecia Palacios at MALBA. In 2009, alongside artist Cristina Schiavi, he organized and coordinated the non-profit exhibition space Mark Morgan Perez Garage.
