Book Launch of The Properties of Light. Luis Barragán-Fred Sandback
Free Admission. Please register in advance.
Roger Duffy (architect and partner at Skimore, Owings & Merrill), Lilian Tone (curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art), and Edward Vazquez (art historian, author of Aspects: Fred Sandback’s Sculpture) discuss The Properties of Light. Luis Barragán-Fred Sandback (published by Proyectos Monclova and Hatje Cantz, English and Spanish). The panel will be moderated by Polina Strogonova (Director of Proyectos Monclova, Mexico City). The book is the record of a 2016 exhibition of Sandback sculptures temporarily installed at Casa Luis Barragán (1948), Casa Antonio Gálvez (1955), Cuadra San Cristóbal (1966–1968), and Casa Gilardi (1975–1977) in collaboration with Proyectos Monclova. The works of two distinct sensibilities are presented in a respectful dialogue between architecture and sculpture.
